When World Gym Australind began construction of its new fitness centre, the project required far more than simply installing air conditioning. The new facility needed a complete mechanical solution capable of maintaining comfortable conditions across a large open gym floor, dedicated training rooms, reception, crèche, offices, consultation rooms and amenities, while also providing fresh air ventilation and exhaust systems throughout the building.
Bunbury Refrigeration & Air Conditioning was engaged to deliver the complete mechanical installation as part of the new commercial fit-out.

Commercial gyms create unique air conditioning challenges. Large open spaces, high ceilings and constantly changing occupancy levels require a system capable of delivering consistent comfort while remaining efficient and reliable.
This project also involved coordinating closely with the builder and other trades throughout construction. As the fit-out progressed, our team worked around ceiling installations, lighting changes and other services to ensure the mechanical installation continued moving forward without delaying the overall project.
Elevated work platforms and crane lifts were used to safely position rooftop equipment and complete works at height.
Our team delivered the complete mechanical installation throughout the facility, including the open gym floor, HIIT room, reformer studio, reception, crèche, offices, consultation rooms and amenities.
The installation included:
The full scope also included refrigerant pipework, cabling, drainage, pressure testing, evacuation, controls and commissioning across the installation.
Throughout the project, our technicians worked closely with the construction team to coordinate mechanical services with the evolving fit-out, ensuring installation quality remained high while maintaining construction timelines.
After approximately four months on site, the project was successfully completed and handed over in time for the gym’s scheduled opening.
Members and staff now benefit from a modern commercial air conditioning system designed to provide consistent comfort throughout the main gym floor, training rooms, reception, crèche, offices and other occupied spaces. Fresh air ventilation and commercial exhaust systems also help support indoor air quality across the facility.
Projects like World Gym Australind demonstrate the importance of careful planning, experienced technicians and strong coordination between trades when delivering a large commercial fit-out.
We’re proud to have played a part in bringing another major local facility to life.
There isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. The best system depends on the size of the facility, ceiling heights, building layout, occupancy levels and, importantly, the project budget.
For larger commercial gyms, packaged rooftop units or large commercial ducted systems are often considered. However, every project is different. For World Gym Australind, the client's budget was a key consideration, so a carefully designed arrangment of Fujitsu cassettes, combined with ducted, wall-mounted and ventilation systems, provided an effective, reliable and cost-conscious solution while delivering excellent comfort throughout the facility.
Fresh air ventilation helps introduce outside air into the building and supports indoor air quality, particularly in busy spaces with high occupancy and physical activity. The system needs to be selected and installed to suit the building design, occupancy and relevant project requirements.
Yes. Zoning controls such as AirTouch 5 can allow separate areas, including reception, crèche and offices, to be managed independently. This provides more flexible temperature control and can reduce unnecessary conditioning of unoccupied spaces.
